You can make a difference to Suffolk Sight.

We welcome the opportunity to involve volunteers in all aspects of our work.

We have lots of different roles to choose from including fundraising, administration, transport, social clubs and befriending. Our board of trustees is made up entirely of volunteers.

We will try to match your skills and abilities to a role. Maybe you have particular skills that we could benefit from? We do expect a commitment, though it could be as little as a few hours a week or a month, we are very flexible.

We can offer you

  • A full induction
  • Full training on all aspects of the role
  • On-going support with an allocated team member from Suffolk Sight
  • Peer to Peer support through regular volunteer meetings
  • Reasonable Expenses

Our volunteer roles are listed below:

Trustees

Our Board of Trustees is made up entirely of volunteers who bring their wealth of skills and experience to our regular Board meetings. A trustee helps to inform the work of Suffolk Sight on a strategic level but may also have other roles within the charity, such as helping at a social club.

Social clubs

Our clubs are primarily organised and run by volunteers. Depending on the size of the group and the number of helpers each volunteer may have one or many roles. The following is a list of tasks that club volunteers can help with.

Club contact/Welcome – liaises between club and staff, welcomes new members

Transport co-ordinator – arranges volunteer drivers or community transport for meetings

Drivers – helping members get to and from meetings

Refreshments / baker – preparing and serving refreshments for meetings

Cash handling – basic record-keeping of monthly subs and expenses

Organising entertainment or trips

We regularly need new people all across the county to support the clubs. If you, or someone you know might be able to help do get in touch with the Volunteer Support Team using the contact details below.

Befriending

Our Befrienders offer regular calls or visits to a member, taking the time to just chat and listen. We are keen to recruit Befrienders across the county in order to be able to match referrals with a volunteer that’s local to their area.

Admin Support

We have small group of office-based volunteers who offer regular, or as-and-when needed, support with a variety of office tasks.

Tech Support

Our Assistive Technology and IT support team is a great mix of staff and volunteers and we hope that our Get Online outreach events will soon be able to resume.

Suffolk Sight Ambassadors

We are looking to create a team of volunteers who will act as Ambassadors for the charity. We will be looking to recruit people who are passionate about the work we do and are happy to enthuse about us in their local community. The various activities that volunteers could choose to help with would be:

Fundraising, giving talks, outreach events and media interviews.
